The Butterfly Project Community

Just like how Charlie always calls his Angels, at Butterfly Project, we always greet our members with "Hello Butterflies". That's how much we love our community and the people in it. What is the Butterfly Project you asked? We wish it could be just like Charlie's Angels but it definitely isn't the Hell's Angels *vroom vroom*. My name is Tammy and this is the story of how The Butterfly Project was created.

we love fun, creative, passionate people

The Butterfly Project

The name was inspired by a local magazine - Female Magazine when they showcased a series of challenges for a group of women to undergo makeovers ranging from beauty to lifestyle called the Female Butterfly Project. Much like America's The Swan without the plastic surgery and dental work. Since then, Tammy has initiated her own group of women bloggers to inspire and challenge them to makeover themselves through blogging. The community's tagline "Beauty From Head To Toe" meant becoming beautiful from the inside and out.

The Butterfly Project is a community for beauty and lifestyle bloggers in Malaysia to come together and connect with one another. It is also a place for bloggers to connect with brands, and brands with bloggers.

Why Did You Start Blogging?

As a veteran blogger on www.plusizekitten.com for almost 10 years, Tammy has seen it all. The jealousy, the competition amongst each other, the backstabbing and bullying. Being a victim of online bullying herself, she vowed to create a place, called it a safe haven for like-minded women bloggers to come together and be friends with each other. Through her journey as a blogger, she has won several blogging competitions, interviews and features with local media and landed her dream job because of blogging.

I believe there are many hidden talents out there, bloggers and content creators who know their stuff. They just need a place to begin, an opportunity to shine, a connection - Tammy.

You can't be a blogger overnight. It starts from somewhere. It's not for the faint hearted, it's not for those who after fame, money or popularity because blogging is a relationship that needs to be maintained, not abandoned when you don't get what you want. Patience, effort, creativity, niche, and most importantly being passionate about what you do.

Beauty Blogging
Beauty blogging is not just for the beautiful, or sexy. It's not physical. Beauty is also from the inside if you're pretty with a rotten personality, you're not exactly beautiful after all. Beauty is also groomed by societal standards, who says a plus size women can't talk about beauty? Break the norm, break the stereotype. It's for everyone who wants to beautiful.

Our First Project
We call our review activities projects because it's what we organize, plan and execute for our butterflies to get involved in. Our first review project was released in March 2013  called the Big Mask Party where we teamed up with a local entrepreneur TT Mask to have butterflies review her masks. About 300 local bloggers, YouTubers joined in our biggest mask project to review these masks.

Our first gathering was in April 2013 when we teamed up with home grown brands Delectable by Su (bakery) and Bag of Love (subscription beauty bag) to invite 30 butterflies to the first ever Unboxing Tea Party. "It was the best event I have ever organized, maybe because of the simplicity and the love of the butterflies to actively be a part of this meaningful experience. I saw reviews, youtube clips, social sharing and the genuine spirit of discovery by the butterflies. I also got to meet new people and see them grow into beautiful butterflies today" says Tammy.
Creating Meaningful Experiences
From thereon, the community has created many unique and fun activities for the community with collaborations from beauty brands in Malaysia. From the big names such as L'Oreal, Shiseido, Suria Meriang, Lux Asia, Muse by Watsons to Uber, Food Panda, 1 Utama, Philips, TGV Cinemas, Sunway Lost World of Tambun, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur to local brands such as Jerlynn'L, Shizens, Bisou Bon Bon, and Orkid Cosmetics.
